Electronic Identification (eID)

Electronic identification as a cornerstone of everyday secure interaction and digital trust between citizens, businesses and the state

February 20, 2025

On February 19-20, the Information Systems Agency of Armenia, “Ernst & Young”, the World Bank, and the private sector jointly launched international workshops focused on introducing a new electronic identification ecosystem in Armenia. The workshops aimed to discuss the vision for electronic identification, promote cooperation between the public and private sectors, and the approximation of the legal framework with the EU eIDAS regulation.

The EU eIDAS regulation also aims to ensure secure cross-border identification in Armenia and facilitate seamless digital interactions with EU countries. By aligning Armenia’s electronic trust and identity standards with EU regulations, secure domestic interactions will be ensured, while also providing Armenian citizens and businesses the opportunity to authenticate their identity within Armenia and access electronic services offered by EU member states.

International partners presented the features of the EU eIDAS/EUDI legal framework, highlighting successful global examples of electronic identification, including Italy’s public-private ecosystem and leading models from Scandinavian countries.

In his speech, Nerses Yeritsyan, Director of the Information Systems Agency, outlined the legal framework for electronic identification, emphasizing the importance of adopting the best international standards and ensuring robust cybersecurity.

Throughout the two-day event, a Q&A session facilitated discussions on the implementation of electronic identification and the digitalization of services, with active participation from both the public and private sectors.
